Montessori Guides (classroom teachers) are responsible for one-on-one Montessori instruction, classroom behavior management, monitoring of student progress and school-to-home communications. Assistants work directly under the supervision of the classroom guide. Additional responsibilities for this position include changing diapers, planning activities, supervising naptime and performing light custodial duties.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years old and able to successfully pass a criminal background check. Candidates who are working toward a degree in a field related to early childhood education are strongly encouraged to apply. An ideal instructor is eager to learn American Sign Language, has experience working in a pre-school or elementary classroom, and embodies the philosophy that children should both have fun at school and be academically challenged.
It is essential that interested applicants be committed to a collaborative, co-teaching model in an inquiry-based educational program. No lesson planning is required.
Upon hiring, training in Reggio Emilia and Montessori pedagogical philosophies is provided. You must genuinely like pre-school age students to be successful in this position.
This position is part-time Monday through Friday from 7:30 am – 11:30 am. Pay begins at $18.00 per hour. This position begins immediately.
